2006 HIGHEST FUNDRAISER SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE

Aaron FlemingAaron Fleming, NZ - $17,000+
Completing an Ironman was the biggest challenge I could ever set myself after suffering a serious medical complaint. But I decided to take on the challenge to support people with cystic fibrosis.

I started from scratch, and had to learn to swim, bike and run. But the entire time Breath4CF provided extra motivation to help me achieve my goal. Being involved with the charity was incredibly rewarding, as I was able to see how the funds I raised was changing lives.

Many children with CF will live for longer because of my Ironman effort - and that is quite simply the greatest feeling in the world. However Ironman also changed my life. It made me stronger, healthier, motivated and more determined that ever. Ironman is a tough, yet powerful, journey - and I have made friends for life out of the experience. Being involved with Breath4CF enabled me to make my efforts count and made my Ironman experience extra special. The time is always right to do what's right. Dream it! Believe it! Achieve it!

2006 HIGHEST FUNDRAISER NORTHERN HEMISPHERE

Reilly DibnerReilly Dibner, USA - $3500+
This was Reilly's 4th Ironman and she chose to do it with Dad, Philip by her side in 2006! Despite suffering ill-health in the weeks leading up to the event, Reilly managed to raise over $3000 for Breath4CF!

2005 HIGHEST FUNDRAISER SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE

Peter SeldonPeter Seldon, Australia - $9591.20
Peter won flights to Germany and an entry to Ironman Germany 2006.

In relation to why I took the extra challenge of using my Breath for CF, well when I signed on I had no personal connection to Cystic Fibrosis, I just decided I wanted to help and to make a difference.

"Having done a couple of IM races in 2004 and seeing what happened in IM New Zealand when I was there, I was looking to enhance my race experience and race for others not just myself, an additional reason to keep on going in those dark hours when you don’t want to go further.

Once I decided to do it and I read more and found out about CF, I discovered just how hard it is for them on a day to day basis, we struggle for breath during those hard moments of a race but they have to endure that everyday. Unfortunately there is no cure, but I hope that the little bit of money that I can raise for the cause can help improve the lives and let these kids make the choices and take the challenges that I was able to do later in life. Thanks for letting me be apart of it and give something back via a sport I love

2005 HIGHEST FUNDRAISER NORTHERN HEMISPHERE

Michael StoneMichael Stone, USA - $7421.30
Michael Stone is from Boulder Colorado and has signed up for the Ironman NZ Charity Challenge for 2 years.

Back at Ironman New Zealand 2004 Michael was the 2nd highest fundraiser, raising $4170.28 and won a $1000 clothing voucher from Nike for his efforts. Not stopping there, Michael almost doubled this last year, raising an amazing $7421.30 and was the highest fundraiser – Northern Hemisphere.

But Michael has done much more than just raise funds, he continues to make a HUGE difference to a little girls life. Two years ago Michael was buddied with Kimberley a 13 year old who has CF. Michael and Kimberley immediately hit it off when we paired them up and have been great friends ever since, even going to Disneyland together.

2004 HIGHEST FUNDRAISER NORTHERN HEMISPHERE

Dave Dawson  - Winner 2004 Ironman NZ Charity Challenge - Northern Hemisphere

Dave Dawson17 years ago Dave Dawson watched a very close friend struggle everyday with Cystic Fibrosis. So when he read that Ironman NZ's charity was raising funds to help the kids with CF become physically active to help them stay alive for longer, he signed up straight away.

Based in the UK, Dave asked his family and friends to sponsor him to honour his friend Wendy who died of CF at the age of 30.

As the highest northern hemisphere based fundraiser, he won a flight on Air New Zealand to return to IMNZ in 2005 along with a complimentary entry to race the event. So will Dave be using his Breath4CF again in 2005 and complete the 2005 charity challenge. "You betcha! and this year I will be out on that course knowing that I am extending even more lives".

2004 HIGHEST FUNDRAISER SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE

Stephen Taylor - Winner 2004 Ironman NZ Charity Challenge - Southern Hemisphere.

Stephen TaylorStephen Taylor didn't have a personal connection to Cystic Fibrosis, he just decided he wanted to help and to make a difference.

"Having done a couple of IM race in Australia, I was looking to enhance my race experience. When I read about the Charity Challenge I thought "great", here’s a chance of a win/win situation – funds for a worthwhile charity and a motivator for me, both of us benefiting during those long dark hours of the marathon which we are both running.

Unfortunately, it’s not quite that simple, with CF there is no cure, no magical wetsuit to help them swim faster, no magical bike to help them spin quicker, no magical runners to make them stride longer – the best they can do is live every day to the fullest. I want to make sure that LOADS of kids got the chance to live each day to the fullest." Stephen won a flight on Air New Zealand and an entry to Ironman Lake Placid which he completed in July 2004.
